'COE Nacional expands capacity at all traffic light color systems-
"The National Emergency Operations Committee (COE) updated this February 9, 2022 the capacities for different activities according to the color of the epidemiological traffic light.

In essential activities, the capacity went from 85 to 100% in the case of the green traffic light; from 60 to 75% in the case of the yellow traffic light; and from 30 to 50% in the case of a red light.

In public transport, the modality of all passengers seated in the three colors of the epidemiological traffic light is maintained.

In restaurants, cinemas, theaters, gyms, spas, among others, the capacity of interiors went from 85 to 100% and in exteriors the capacity of 100% is maintained for the green traffic light; from 60 to 75% capacity indoors and 85% capacity is maintained outdoors at the yellow traffic light. At the red traffic light, capacity went from 30 to 50% outdoors and from 50 to 75% outdoors.

For bars, karaoke bars, discos and the like at a green traffic light, the capacity of 85% is maintained; at a yellow traffic light it went from 50 to 60% indoors and from 60 to 75% outdoors; and at a red light, 30% capacity is maintained."

For outdoor activities such as beaches, parks, public spaces, among others, the capacity of 100% is maintained at a green traffic light. In yellow and red, the capacity of 75 and 50% respectively is also maintained. For all three cases, the events are subject to authorization by the National COE.

At a red light, 21 cantons remain; in yellow 165 and in green 35. Quito remains at a yellow traffic light.

carnival holiday-
The Minister of Health, Ximena Garzón, stated that the country is experiencing a downward trend in both infections and deaths from covid-19.

Regarding the variants in the country, the Minister assured that in Ecuador there are only 2% of Delta cases and 98% of Omicron cases. In two weeks, she said, she estimates there will be 100% Omicron in the country that is more contagious but less lethal. There are no other variants like Alpha or Gamma anymore.

Regarding the next holiday that is coming up in the country for Carnival, she said that this will be "much safer" because the Omicron variant will displace the Delta (more lethal), which she asserted will no longer have a presence in Ecuador.

"If we want to have a safe Carnival we have to get vaccinated, we have the conditions to have a good holiday," said the head of Health.
In the event that there is an outbreak of contagion after the holiday, the health system is capable of treating patients, the Minister asserted.
