(things can get real weird, real quick, stay alert) 🐎 17 MAY22- 💸 "In Quito, buyers report that the price of cooking oil doubled. For 6 years, Carlos Beltrán and his wife Gladys Carrera have been shopping at the Mercado Central in the center of Quito. After the tour they made today, in their hands they carried the bags with the products they purchased:
vegetables, meat, onions, potatoes, etc. Beltrán says that they go to some places in the mercado to look for the best prices and products. Before they had trustworthy merchants, but now with the increase in product values they see other alternatives in different positions. 📈
His wife Gladys comments that food is getting more and more expensive and it is difficult to do the shopping on some occasions. Both have noticed that one of the products that has increased in price is oil. In recent months the price has risen frequently.
"Today it is difficult to be able to buy an oil that used to cost $1.50 and now it is around $3 or more," says Beltrán. In a tour carried out by the newspaper El Comercio, the discomfort of merchants and buyers in the Mercado Central regarding the price of oil was noted. With concern, the sellers say that the distributors have told them that the figure will continue to increase.
Daniela Zapata, who visits the mercado every 15 days to do her home shopping, said that she now uses less oil in her meals. She says that she has identified that, for four months, prices have been rising and it is becoming more and more difficult to bring food to her house.
Like other users, the woman has decided to switch to cheaper brands and buy smaller oils. She says that this way she manages to make her budget reach what she pays for her purchases...." —
