Masks again mandatory in closed spaces in Ecuador
Because of an increase in cases of covid-19 and other respiratory diseases such as influenza in Ecuador, the National Emergency Operations Committee (COE) has decided today to resume the mandatory use of masks in closed spaces.
Masks
After this decision, it's mandatory to wear masks in Ecuador in the following places:
• closed spaces
• poorly ventilated places
• places where distancing cannot be maintained such as classrooms, transportation, offices, etc.
• medical centers like hospitals
People with respiratory symptoms also have to wear masks in all other public spaces.
The National COE recommends everyone to use masks in open places and during massive events where physical distancing cannot be maintained.
In case of respiratory symptoms
In case of respiratory symptoms, the National COE recommends carrying out a COVID-19 test and keeping five days of voluntary isolation.
Vaccinations
The National COE urges all people to complete the COVID-19 vaccination scheme. It urges vulnerable people to vaccinate against influenza.
Abolishment of the obligation to use masks in Ecuador
And the end of April 2022, the obligation to use masks was eliminated by president Guillermo Lasso. At a public event, he said that the pandemic was controlled and therefore the mask was no longer necessary in open and closed spaces.
