19MAR23 (21:30) #Ecuador "President Lasso announced that he will declare a state of exception throughout the country, without restriction of rights, as one of the actions to address areas affected by the earthquake and rains as a result of the winter season. The state of exception will allow the government to speed up the public contracting of the affected structures.
Lasso also announced the creation of the housing lease voucher. "We are going to acquire already-built houses from the private sector to provide quicker solutions to those who lost theirs," he said. He explained that there are 192 houses affected and 89 houses destroyed. He also announced the channeling of resources for citizens affected by natural phenomena; To this end, emergency funds from multilateral organizations will be managed to quickly dispose of the necessary resources.
Lasso began his Sunday night speech by sending his condolences and solidarity to the families of the 14 deceased and 461 injured by the earthquake. "It is a pain that all Ecuadorians feel. May God give them the comfort they need at this time," he said.
The President publicly thanked the institutions that cooperated for their efforts in this emergency. Armed Forces, National Police, Fire Department and Red Cross were mentioned. The Head of State gave a last general thank you to the companies that joined in providing help to the victims through their donations....." -
