01SEP23- Former Mossad agent speaks out on Narco Trafficking problems in #Ecuador - "The name of Udi Levy is little known to Ecuadorians, but this former head of Israeli intelligence (Mossad) just left Quito in August ,after he had to pull off an Ecuador case linked to terrorism and drug trafficking.
In an interview with the Argentine newspaper La Nación , Levy comments that he abandoned the investigation, after the lives of his team members began to be at risk.
“I decided not to continue because very high people had been reached , it was very dangerous for me and my team and I was putting them at risk,” says Levy, without delving into the investigation or pointing out those responsible for the threats.
Levy is considered one of those "eternal" heads of the Institute of Intelligence and Special Operations, or Mossad, an agency created in 1949 as a result of the creation of the state of Israel, and which carries out counterterrorism actions worldwide.
Los Lobos 'heat up the streets' after operations in prisons According to Levy, who led the so-called Cassandra plan, an agreement between the United States and Israel, a large part of the funds that feed terrorist groups such as Hezbollah come from drug cartels based in Colombia and Venezuela.
“The financing of terrorism through drug trafficking is increasing. Not only Iran and Hezbollah continue to use drug trafficking as a way to finance terrorism, (...) A new actor has entered the battle: Syria," says Levy, convinced of the ties between terrorist groups and drug traffickers.
The Cassandra project ended in the Barack Obama government in 2015, and after leaving Mossad, Levy has continued to be linked to pursuing narcoterrorism, this time as an adviser, and when hired by a government or international agencies. The Mossad operation in Latin America was dismantled and from there, Levy suspects, increased activity between the Iranians and Hezbollah with Venezuela.
"From there they spread to all of South America and the United States," says the intelligence expert. And he adds that in the case of Colombia, "as a consequence of the success of the action of the United States,
the focus of narcoterrorism moved to Ecuador ." Regarding the penetration of Iranian terrorism, Levy affirms that they move through a series of false food and logistics companies, thanks to the " great porosity of the borders of Latin America."
Levy's statements occur at a time when Ecuador is undergoing a series of bomb attacks , two in Quito, two in El Oro and two more in Cuenca , in the last 24 hours. A van with gas cylinders exploded on Avenida 12 de Octubre, in the north center of Quito, in the early hours of August 31, 2023.
API Although the Police or the authorities have not mentioned that these are terrorist acts, they have attributed them to the narco-criminal gangs that operate in the country."

01JUL25 - SOUTHCOM’s TMPI: Towards Integrated Deterrence in the Americas by Building Maintenance Capacity- #ECUADOR - "Analyzing Ecuador’s foreign policy trajectory over the past two decades is pertinent to illuminating the region’s evolving political and security landscape. During President Rafael Correa’s administration between 2007 and 2017, Ecuador pivoted by severing its military relations with the US.
This comprehensive shift included ordering the closure of the security cooperation office in the US Embassy and honoring but not renewing the lease term for the Manta Air Base, causing the withdrawal of approximately 300 US military personnel stationed there.
However, this period of strained relations was followed by the re-establishment of the Office of Security Cooperation (OSC) in 2018, signaling a potential shift that ultimately materialized with new military cooperation agreements signed with the US in 2023 under President Lasso and ratified in 2024 by President Daniel Noboa. ...
25JUN25 "Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa announced this Thursday the capture of Adolfo Macías Villamar, alias "Fito ," considered the leader of the Los Choneros organized crime group.
"For those who opposed and doubted the need for the Solidarity and Intelligence laws : thanks to those laws, Fito was captured today and is in the hands of the Security Bloc," the president posted on the social network X.
"We have done our part to proceed with Fito's extradition to the United States , and we await your response. Have a good afternoon, Ecuador," Noboa added.
The criminal leader had been on the run for over a year and a half , after escaping from the Guayaquil Regional Prison and hiding his tracks while the country was engulfed in a spiral of violence, culminating in the brief takeover of a television station.
'Fito,' who was serving a 34-year sentence for organized crime, drug trafficking, and murder , escaped on January 7, 2024, as he was about to be transferred to La Roca, a ...
