15DEC23- 'Gang Leader Norero bought national judges with USD $450,000 and "good-looking women", according to the Prosecutor's Office Jewelry, computers, money, apartments and even women were offered by Leandro Norero and his lawyers to buy judges throughout the country.-
"Now here, in the judge's office"; It was September 10, 2022. Lawyer Helive Angulo, alias 'Estimado', reported to his boss, drug trafficker Leandro Norero, who was in an office of the National Court of Justice (CNJ) negotiating a habeas corpus in favor of of his brothers. The message was accompanied by a selfie in the office. In the background, in the photograph, you can see a bookcase.
And on that shelf, a book with the legend: "Wilman Terán, civil and family book." That message and the image were found by the Prosecutor's Office on one of the cell phones that Norero, known by the alias 'El Patrón', left in the Latacunga prison. The capo was murdered in October 2022, in that prison.
Now, that and thousands of other messages are the main evidence that the Attorney General's Office presented to prosecute 31 people for organized crime. On the list of those charged is Wilman Terán, current president of the Judiciary Council, who at that time was a national judge. Metastasis Case: These are the 31 investigated for organized crime The failed habeas corpus in Cotopaxi Norero was arrested in May 2022, in Samborondón.
But he was transferred to Latacunga. From that prison, according to the Prosecutor's Office, he continued to manage his drug business and put pressure on judicial officials to achieve impunity. After his arrest, 'El Patrón' and several members of his family were prosecuted for money laundering and they were all placed in preventive detention.
For this reason, the drug trafficker began to recruit judicial servants to get his family members out of prison. One of his strategies was to remove his brothers Israel Willian Norero Tigua and Johanna Maribel Zambrano Tigua through habeas corpus. Five appeals were presented simultaneously in different units of the country. Most of those habeas corpus were distractions.
The real plan was to obtain liberation in Cotopaxi. For this they bribed Santiago Zumba and José Luis Segovia, judges of that jurisdiction. The plan was for the magistrates to rule in favor based on alleged medical problems of Norero's brothers.
But this could not be realized. In a message, one of Norero's collaborators informed him that the hearing was postponed because his lawyers did not argue well, since they did not have the necessary medical report. The appeal was partially accepted." To use this content, cite the source and link to the original note on Primicias.ec:

During President Rafael Correa’s administration between 2007 and 2017, Ecuador pivoted by severing its military relations with the US.
This comprehensive shift included ordering the closure of the security cooperation office in the US Embassy and honoring but not renewing the lease term for the Manta Air Base, causing the withdrawal of approximately 300 US military personnel stationed there.
However, this period of strained relations was followed by the re-establishment of the Office of Security Cooperation (OSC) in 2018, signaling a potential shift that ultimately materialized with new military cooperation agreements signed with the US in 2023 under President Lasso and ratified in 2024 by President Daniel Noboa. ...
