07FEB24- "The Police maintain their operations against gangs considered terrorist by the National Government. On the night of February 6, they captured 17 subjects in the provinces of Santa Elena and Manabí. In Las Palmeras, Santa Elena, a woman reported that she was a victim of the crime of extortion.
The subjects demanded a large amount of money from her so as not to make an attempt on her life. At the time of the intervention, the suspects fired shots at the uniformed officers and three were injured. At the moment they are stable.
In another operation, carried out in El Carmen Canton in Manabí, security forces carried out simultaneous raids and captured nine subjects, including a recaptured prisoner.
According to the Police, the detainees are allegedly linked to the crime of terrorism. Among those arrested is alias "Lucho," one of the leaders of Los Choneros, the Armed Forces reported on their social networks. In this operation, weapons, ammunition, police uniforms, cell phones and satellite phones were seized." -
