19FEB24 - "The Ministry of National Defense of Ecuador announced that they have confiscated more than $900 million worth of items in the fight against organized crime, drug trafficking and terrorism.
This figure was obtained since last January 9, the date on which a state of exception was declared due to internal armed conflict. The joint operations of the Armed Forces, the National Police and other state institutions have led to these results, through interventions by the security group.
The operations have been carried out in various areas of the country. Among the seized items were drugs, firearms and knives, as well as boats, vehicles, explosives, communications equipment and gallons of fuel. “The actions of the Ecuadorian security forces are not only limited to confiscating objects, but also preserve peace and stability in the country.
These achievements are fundamental for the economic reactivation of Ecuador, since a safe and stable environment is crucial to attract foreign and national investments, as well as to promote tourism,” says a statement from the Ministry of Defense.
During the recent Carnaval holiday, more than a million Ecuadorians traveled to different parts of the country. No major emergencies were reported, in spas and tourist sites with a high concentration of people it was possible to identify the police and military guarding vulnerable areas.
The presence of agents on commercial routes with safe corridors has also been highlighted, so that trucks are not robbed, and eliminating clandestine crossings at the borders, to prevent smuggling and the passage of illegal products.
President Noboa has highlighted that the level of credibility and trust of Ecuadorians has exceeded 85% in terms of the Armed Forces and National Police. More than 20 criminal gangs have been declared terrorist organizations. The authorities have reiterated their commitment to continue dismantling the gangs that operate in the country and that were responsible for various illicit actions."
