17APR24- "President Daniel Noboa said the new energy crisis that Ecuador is going through is due - in large part - to political sabotage. The government believes that a group of people hid information to cause power cuts in the week before the popular consultation. Since the beginning of April 2023, the country has suffered blackouts.
Initially, the Government classified them as temporary disconnections. Until the night of April 15, 2024, the authorities announced the first schedules of scheduled outages. The next day, Noboa declared an emergency in the electricity sector and asked for the resignation of Andrea Arrobo, who was serving as Minister of Energy and Mines.
In addition, he announced that an alleged sabotage within the government was being investigated. Finally, on Wednesday, the Executive denounced 21 people for alleged paralysis of a public service and treason. They include Arrobo." -
