06JUN24- #Ecuador "The President of the Republic, Daniel Noboa, reacted on his social networks to the sanctions imposed by the United States on the Los Lobos organization and its leader, Wílmer Chavarría, alias Pipo.
On the morning of this Thursday, June 6, the United States Department of the Treasury released this information. The sanctions contemplate the blocking of the properties and interests in properties of Pipo and the people of the group, as well as those that are under the control of US persons, and the agency must be informed.
Likewise with any entity that is owned, directly or indirectly, individually or jointly, 50% or more by one or more blocked persons, unless authorized by a general or specific license issued by OFAC, or exempt.
“The United States stands behind our fight against terrorism. For years terrorists have been used to doing whatever they want, today the story is different. Today they have a Government that confronts them, and allies continue to join in this fight. “This is a long-term war, one that we are going to win,” wrote President Daniel Noboa.
The Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control noted that Los Lobos became the largest drug trafficking organization in Ecuador and contributes to the violence affecting the country.
Within the statement it was mentioned that Los Lobos began as an armed wing of Los Choneros dedicated to hitmen, but the death of José Luis Zambrano, alias Rasquiña, left a vacuum in power that generated attacks, prison massacres and division of criminal gangs.
“Los Lobos has been involved in drug trafficking, contract killings and illegal gold mining and also provides security services for Mexico's CJNG in support of the CJNG's efforts to dominate cocaine trafficking routes in the region. port city of Guayaquil in Ecuador,” it was added.
Likewise, it was recalled that they are accused of the murder of candidate Fernando Villavicencio in August of last year.
Regarding Wilmer Chavarría Barré, it was mentioned that he was a fugitive and through public reports it is suggested that he may have fled Ecuador under another identity. -
