THU 18JUL24- 'This evening, a bus robery left 5 fatal victims-
Five dead, including a child, after assault on an interprovincial bus.
Armed individuals shot five people on an interprovincial bus traveling the Guayaquil-Tulcán route.
On the San Juan-Babahoyo road, five people were killed inside an interprovincial bus traveling the Guayaquil-Tulcán route, despite government efforts to strengthen road security.
The bus was intercepted by two vans from which armed individuals disembarked, fired at the San Cristóbal cooperative bus, injured the driver,
and then killed the five people, according to initial reports. The violent incident occurred around 21:00 on Thursday, July 18, 2024.
Among the deceased victims is a 5-year-old child, who died at Martín Icaza Hospital in Guayaquil, where he was taken severely injured.
Police transferred the victims' bodies, who are believed to be members of the same family, to the morgue.
The victims boarded at the Babahoyo bus terminal in Los Ríos province, bound for Tulcán (Carchi). According to RTS channel, police presume the victims were identified by the criminals before they were shot."
