06SEP24 #ECUADOR "The National Secretariat for Risk Management reported that seven forest fires are still active in different provinces of Ecuador until 12:00 this Friday in the midst of the dry season and high temperatures.
The agency's report states that all these fires are concentrated in the Sierra, in the provinces of Pichincha (three) and Azuay (one), while Chimborazo, Imbabura and Cañar each recorded one.
The longest-lasting forest fire so far is located on Cerro el Chispo, in the parish of La Merced de Buenos Aires, in Urcuquí (Imbabura).
It started on August 28 and has so far consumed 600 hectares of vegetation. Another fire began on September 1 in the Caluvín sector of the Sibambe parish in Alausí Canton (Chimborazo) and has affected 200 hectares.
(COE) The Emergency Operations Committee of the town will meet to adopt resolutions. In the case of Pichincha, the largest fires are concentrated in the area of Nayón and Pifo, in the northeast of Quito. According to preliminary reports, in less than 48 hours they consumed more than 500 hectares of dry vegetation.
Meanwhile, eight fires have already been brought under control, the most serious of which occurred in Loja where close to 10,000 hectares were burned:
in the San Antonio de las Aradas sector, in Quilanga Canton, 6,295 hectares were razed; and another 3,352 hectares in the Quinara parish of the provincial capital.
In the Nabón canton of Azuay, a new forest fire broke out yesterday in an area other than the Santa Rosa sector, where 522 hectares were lost."

In practice, going to the market will cost more, and money will go less. This comes on top of rising fuel and transportation costs. The cost of living is increasing, and the burden of the crisis is once again falling on the people."
