04DEC24 "The expansion project for Quito's Mariscal Sucre International Airport, which involves a multimillion-dollar investment, is 32% complete, with plans to be fully inaugurated by the end of 2025.
With this project, Corporación Quiport expects to receive 7.5 million passengers per year; at present, 5.4 million are transported. The project involves a total investment of $74.2 million, explained Diego Álvarez, Infrastructure and Engineering manager of the airport.
The project includes an extension of the terminal building by 17,000 square metres . The platform will also be extended by 35,000 square metres. Currently, the area where the planes are parked is 100,000 m2.
The expansion of the passenger terminal includes four levels:
Level 0: Expansion of technical rooms and warehouses for terminal suppliers.
Level 1: Expansion of the public arrivals hall, baggage claim area, increase in the capacity of the international baggage carousels (from two to three), reconfiguration of the Customs area, expansion of the duty-free shop and the baggage handling system.
Level 2: Expansion of the public departure hall, passenger check-in area with 20 new counters and 12 self-check-in machines, pre-boarding lounge for 350 passengers, expansion of the international departure duty-free shop and new food and beverage areas.
Level 3: expansion of the international VIP lounge, which currently measures 950 square metres, to nearly 2,000, with capacity to accommodate 200 people.
With the expansion of the platform, there will be more space for 'type E' aircraft, which are the largest, for long-distance flights, and for 'type C' aircraft, which are smaller in scale, explained the Infrastructure Manager.
The terminal expansion project is being carried out by Ekron Construcciones and the terminal expansion by Tracto Repuestos. The supervisory company is Icorp. Around 400 people are working on the project. Currently, the airport receives about 5.4 million passengers a year.
The expansion is expected to accommodate 7.5 million passengers, said Ramón Miró, president of Corporación Quiport, the airport's concessionaire."

To those who choose violence, the law awaits them. To those who act like criminals, they will be treated as criminals.

"While some want to stop Ecuador, we propel it forward.
We will reduce the VAT to 8% during the holidays of October 9, and November 2 and 3, because this country is not going to grind to a halt because of a few who lost the business of smuggling and illegal mining.
To boost the local economy, on November 14 we will pay the thirteenth salary to public employees,
so families will have more money during Black Friday and Cyber Monday. We invite the private sector to join this initiative." - (2/2)
